Grace began as a mission in June of 2000 under the authority of Faith Baptist Church in Paducah, Kentucky, Brother Jerry Asberry, pastor. At that time, there were seven families in attendance for a total of 17 souls. We first met in the Clarion Westgate hotel on Secor road. We had guest speakers each week for services on Sunday. On December 19, 2000 we rented space at 5511 Fern Street, Toledo, Oh. In December, the mission began to use Brother Raul Bergerman as a regular speaker.
We continued to meet as a mission until June of 2001. On July 17, 2000, the mission traveled to Paducah, Kentucky to join Faith Missionary Baptist Church. In the business meeting that evening, letters were granted to the following mission members:
Raul, Karen, Michael and Philip Bergerman
Ed, Mary, Bethany and Tiffany Burgess
Louie and Betty Presnell
Jerrol and Marianne Summerville
James and Mary Jane Wilmoth
Charles and Thelma Wilson
Sania Covert
On June 23, 2001, Brother Jerry Asberry and members of Faith Baptist Church, Paducah, traveled to Toledo for the purpose of organizing the mission into a new testament Baptist church. At that time, Brother Raul Bergerman was ordained as pastor of Grace Baptist Church under the authority of Faith Baptist Church, Paducah, Kentucky.
The new church continued to grow. In April of 2009, Brother Raul Bergerman resigned as pastor. The church began hearing candidates in May of 2009. In July of 2009, the church issued a call to Brother Matt Brooks to be our pastor. Following his ordination at Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Wyandotte, Michigan, Brother Matt assumed the pastorate at Grace Missionary Baptist Church. The church met at 551 1 Fern until January, 2010. Under the leadership of Brother Brooks, the church voted to lease a building and on February 1, 2010 the church began to meet at 6877 Summerfield Road, Temperance, Michigan. The Lord has blessed us beyond words and continues to bless.
